The prisoner defiantly stares down Heinrich Himmler, Hitler’s right-hand-man, who was responsible for the Holocaust. Greasley’s confrontation with Himmler took place during an inspection of the camp he was confined to. The inmates were ordered to remain seated, but Greasley refused. Horace Greasley also escaped the death camp, but sneaked back in to rescue a German woman whom he had fallen in love with.

Look at Himmler he looks like a mole rat…
All jokes aside, this actually isn’t Horace Greasley. This particular photo is taken in what looks like Minsk, three years before the incident the person above is describing. This prisoner is from what I can tell a regular soldier from the USSR as denoted by the “pilotka” cap. It was standard issue in the Red Army. I’ve seen this photo before and it is very famous but the camera that took this is an FED. It’s a dead give away from the picture quality, a German would have used Leica. Also, there’s more photos from the negatives and it shows the rest of the POW camp. It’s a totally different place in a different country, three years prior. Oh and it wasn’t a “death camp.” Greasley was a British soldier who was captured and was sent to a POW camp. Death camps were typically reserved for Jews, gays, gypsies, the retarded, blacks, ect. Anyone not deemed fit for the Third Reich.
Don’t get me wrong, Himmler was a piece of shit. But get your facts right before posting to tumblr.
